Title: Upper School Dance Teacher 

Reports to: Department of Performing Arts

Status: Full-Time Benefits Eligible

Salary Range: $60,000 - $100,000 

Start Date: August 15,2024

SUMMARY:

The Masters School seeks an enthusiastic and energetic dance specialist to join its Department of Performing Arts as a dance teacher and choreographer. 

Energetic, enthusiastic teaching candidates who are eager to collaborate with a talented department of performing arts teachers are encouraged to apply.  Ideal candidates will demonstrate a high-level of talent and passion for the dramatic arts, as well as a commitment to student-centered teaching.  The Department of Performing Arts’ aim is to facilitate learning experiences that ensure a lifelong passion for and appreciation of the arts and that allow students to develop their skills throughout their time at Masters.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • teach dance technique classes: Dance Major, Advanced Dance Major, Dance Minor, and Advanced Dance Minor
  • lead & choreograph for Masters Dance Company two seasons per year (fall and spring)
  • choreograph Winter Musical in the upper school
  • Provide guidance to student dance groups and student choreographers
  • Successfully engage and develop student’s interest and enthusiasm for the subject matter.
  • Serve as an academic advisor for 8-10 students (starting the second year)
  • Attend Department of Performing Arts, Upper School division and full faculty meetings
  • Attend or hold regular production and post-mortem meetings
  • Participate in the life of the school by attending full group activities including morning meeting, student presentations and performances and culminating events

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Dance is required; a Master’s Degree or professional equivalent preferred
  • Experience working with dance students of varied skill levels 
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion and a high degree of cultural competence
  • Understands and fosters the balance needed for student dancers to succeed within a

rigorous college preparatory setting

  • Finds joy in working with young dancers and sharing a passion for dance
  • Proven ability to communicate with students, parents and colleagues to build community and support student learning, including excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Willing to be a flexible team player and shift responsibilities year to year as best serves students
  • Interest in being an active member of The Masters School community
  • Familiar with and willing to explore student-centered pedagogical approaches
  • Energy, enthusiasm and curiosity – willingness to be a fellow learner with students
  • Demonstrates kindness, empathy and the ability to create safe spaces for young people to explore themselves and their artistic abilities 
  • Prior experience teaching similar-aged students
  • Proficient in the use of technology
  • Availability to commit to a rehearsal schedule, including many nights and weekends
