Job Description

Duties

The major duties include but are not limited to:

  • Makes minor adjustments and does daily operator maintenance to sewing and embroidery machines to ensure proper operation as required by operation manuals;
  • Marks new linens and uniforms which are placed into service and does various uniform alterations;
  • Utilizes responsibility for procedures and daily direction of various laundry programs, Uniform Issue, Linen and Uniform Repair/Replacement and Fair, Wear and Tear tracking procedures;
  • Serves as backup to two additional programs: Patient Assistance Program (PAP) and the Lost and Found Program;
  • Operates various laundry and office equipment/machinery;
  • Operates a wide variety of commercial sewing machines, surgers, button sewing machines, thermos-press machines, computerized embroidery machines and wrapping machines;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm

Qualifications

PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: The person in this position must be able to lift and carry fifty (50) pounds. Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time; performs light to moderate bending, twisting, kneeling and stooping. Position routinely requires that individual operate vehicles and walk medium distances to various buildings and different areas of the Medical Center when necessary. Repetitive motion of arms, wrist and hands.


Work is normally performed inside where there is ample light, heat and ventilation. The person in this position is intermittently exposed to excess humidity, chemicals and solvents, fumes, dust and noise and potentially wet, slippery floors. This position will be expected to work scheduled holidays and may be asked to work irregular hours and weekends as necessary in support of veteran care.

Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee.
